At Busald Funk Zevely PSC, we are dedicated to representing the underdogs—those who persevere and succeed despite the odds. Whether facing a personal challenge, academic hurdle, or life obstacle, every underdog story deserves to be recognized. The 2027 Underdog Scholarship was created to recognize students who have demonstrated resilience, determination, and perseverance while working toward their goals.

The scholarship invites applicants to reflect on their experiences overcoming adversity and share their personal story. Students who have encountered challenges and successfully worked through them are encouraged to reflect on the strength and determination that helped them move forward. We hope this scholarship encourages others to recognize their accomplishments and continue striving toward their ambitions.

Through the 2027 Underdog Scholarship, Busald Funk Zevely PSC continues its commitment to supporting students who demonstrate grit, perseverance, and the courage to overcome obstacles in pursuit of their dreams.

Eligibility

• The scholarship is available to high school juniors and seniors, undergraduate students, and graduate students who are legal residents of the United States. Eligible applicants must be enrolled in a vocational program or a two- to five-year post-secondary institution for the 2027 Fall Semester.
• Employees of Busald Funk Zevely PSC, their immediate families (parent, child, sibling, and spouse), and persons living in the same households of such individuals (whether related or not), are not eligible to participate in the competition. 
• Candidates for this scholarship should have a minimum GPA of 3.0 or higher and be in good overall academic standing.

Application Requirements

The candidate must fill out the form below with all necessary information

• The candidate must submit a 750-1,000 word essay response to the prompt: Tell us about a time when you considered yourself an underdog. What challenges put you in that position, and how did you overcome the odds to achieve your goal?
  • Please be advised that all submitted essays will be reviewed for AI-generated content. Applications containing writing determined to have been generated by AI will not be considered.
• Applicants must provide a professional résumé outlining their academic background and relevant professional experience.
• Applicants must submit a transcript from their current school. First-year college students, graduate students, and students who have recently transferred may provide an unofficial transcript from their current institution along with the most recent official transcript from their previous school. High school students may submit proof of acceptance to a college or university.
• Preference will be given to students either from or attending secondary school in the state.

The recipient of the 2027 Underdog Scholarship will be chosen during the month following the scholarship deadline of July 31, 2027.
