I represent my clients as I would want to be represented myself. My goal is to help them creatively resolve their most personal issues with respect and compassion.
I am a lifelong resident of Northern Kentucky and have been practicing law for 34 years. I am a partner with Busald Funk Zevely and have been practicing with the law firm since 1984. I have special expertise in all areas of family law, criminal law, adoption, wills and trusts, estates and landlord/tenant. I truly believe my expertise in these areas assist me in making a difference in my client’s lives.
Admitted to the Kentucky Bar in 1981 and the Ohio Bar in 1989 – I received my Bachelor’s of Science degree from Northern Kentucky University in 1978; and my law degree from Salmon P. Chase College of Law in 1981. I am also licensed to practice in the U. S. Eastern District Court of Kentucky and the U. S. Court of Appeals, Sixth Circuit. I am an active member of the Northern Kentucky Bar Association; Kentucky Bar Association; and The Academy of Northern Kentucky Collaborative Professionals.
I am a member of The Academy of Northern Kentucky Collaborative Professionals — this is a group of lawyers who offer, as an alternative, the option for divorce clients to settle cases without court intervention. In an informal setting, couples are encouraged to take a mature, cooperative, non-combative approach. The couples and their attorneys agree to avoid litigation, thus creating an environment where all involved are committed to reaching an efficient, mutually agreeable settlement… out of the courtroom.
In addition, I have previously volunteered my time to the AIM Program (Attendance, Intervention, and Mediation) — a truancy diversion initiative (or Truancy Court) that was implemented on-site in three Boone County Schools. Each participating school selected 8 to 10 students in the 8 to 14 age range who are habitual truants or who are in the process of becoming habitual truants. I served as a “judge” who agreed to meet with the students and families on a weekly basis during the school year to discuss and monitor the problems that impact the truancy behavior. The AIM Program fostered positive attitudes towards school and increased the participation in school activities by both youth and parents. The Boone County AIM Program, of which I was a part, received the “Kentucky Child Now Destiny Award”. This award was given to recognize individuals and organizations who have made a significant impact on the future of Kentucky’s children and youth.

Divorce is something that happens to other people . . . or so I thought. While it takes two people to get married, the decision to divorce quite often only takes one. This is where I found myself after 15 years of marriage and four small children.
When I was faced with dealing with this life altering situation I was very fortunate to have been referred to Mike McMain of Busald Funk and Zevely for legal counsel. Mike was a calming, professional and competent force in an otherwise tumultuous, emotional, and to be honest a quite scary time in my life. It was nothing I was even remotely close to being prepared for and Mike was able to provide outstanding legal counsel that helped me make quality thoughtful decisions, not only for myself, but also on matters that would have a lasting effect on my children as well.
I cannot say enough about not only Mike, but his entire team. They are highly experienced and very respected throughout the legal community. I have always been well represented, educated and well taken care of in all aspects. Over the years I have referred many people to Mike and his team, and have often commented to others on how fortunate I am to have Mike working for me, and on my behalf.
In addition to the initial process of divorce, Mike has also been my resource and legal counsel on a number of divorce related matters over the past 11 years. In all matters, Mike has embraced and helped me embrace the most ethical, fair and legal approach in dealing with these various situations that present themselves in a divorce where children are involved. After all of these years, I not only know Mike McMain as the finest legal counsel I could have had, but now as a friend and resource as well. He has helped me navigate and protect my interests and those of my children countless times. I highly recommend that when you find yourself in need of legal services and counsel, you call on Mike McMain. I could not imagine going through the divorce process and the past 11 years without him.
